How to Reach Ujjain from Pune

Pune to Ujjain is a long journey. Most travellers fly to Indore and drive the last hour, or take one of the trains that run from the Pune area towards Indore via Ujjain.

The road distance from Pune to Ujjain is about 650 km, usually via Ahmednagar or Nashik, Dhule and Indore. Plan for 11 to 13 hours of driving, ideally with an overnight stop.

Some trains run from the Pune area to Ujjain or to Indore via Ujjain, with journey times of about 14 to 17 hours. Options include the Daund–Indore Express. Services and days of running change, so search for trains from Pune (PUNE) or Daund to Ujjain Junction (UJN).

If no suitable direct train fits your dates, go by train to Indore or Bhopal and continue to Ujjain by train or road.

Last mile in Ujjain: Ujjain Junction (UJN) is about 2 km from Mahakaleshwar Temple. Autos and e-rickshaws wait outside the station and at the Nanakheda and Dewas Gate bus stands. Around the temple, the last stretch is often on foot because of traffic controls, especially on Mondays, Shravan and festival days.

Ujjain has no commercial airport. Flying from Pune to Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Indore (IDR) is usually the fastest option; flights take about 1.5 hours. From Indore airport, Ujjain is about 53 km, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours by taxi.
