Local Food in Ujjain
Ujjain eats the food of Malwa. Breakfast is poha with jalebi, topped with sev and a sprinkle of jeeravan masala, along with kachori and samosa. The signature meal is dal bafla, wheat dumplings boiled, then roasted and soaked in ghee, served with dal, kadhi and laddu.
Also try bhutte ka kees (grated corn cooked with milk and spices), sabudana khichdi, rich shikanji and lassi. The temple's laddu prasad is a popular gift to take home. Food in the temple quarter is almost entirely vegetarian, and many places serve sattvik meals without onion and garlic.
