How to Reach Ujjain from Kota

Kota is one of the closest Rajasthan cities to Ujjain, and many trains on the Delhi–Ujjain and Jaipur–Ujjain routes pass through Kota. The journey takes about half a day by train or road.

The road distance from Kota to Ujjain is about 270 km, via Jhalawar and Agar. Plan for 5 to 6 hours of driving.

A taxi or own car is convenient for families and lets you leave at a time that suits darshan timings in Ujjain.

Kota Junction (KOTA) has many trains to Ujjain Junction (UJN). Most take about 4 to 5 hours. They include Delhi–Indore and Jaipur–Indore trains such as the Jaipur–Indore Superfast Express, the Ranthambore Express and the New Delhi–Indore Express.

There is also a slower Kota–Ujjain MEMU for short-distance travel.

Last mile in Ujjain: Ujjain Junction (UJN) is about 2 km from Mahakaleshwar Temple. Autos and e-rickshaws wait outside the station and at the Nanakheda and Dewas Gate bus stands. Around the temple, the last stretch is often on foot because of traffic controls, especially on Mondays, Shravan and festival days.

There is no practical flight from Kota to Ujjain. Road or train is the best option. The nearest airport to Ujjain is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Indore (IDR), about 53 km from Ujjain.
