Maya Devi Temple

Maya Devi Temple is among the oldest and most significant temples in Haridwar, believed to date back over a thousand years, and is regarded by many locals as the city's presiding deity — Haridwar itself is sometimes said to take its protective character from this shrine. It's counted as one of the Siddh Peeths, alongside Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi, and is considerably more compact and unassuming than either of its hilltop counterparts, tucked into a quiet lane not far from Har Ki Pauri. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Maya, worshipped here in three forms, and unlike the hilltop temples, requires no ropeway or trek — just a short walk through the older part of the city. This makes it an easy, unhurried addition to a Har Ki Pauri visit rather than a separate half-day trip, and it draws a mostly local crowd of devotees rather than a heavily touristed one. Its relatively low profile among visiting tourists, despite its historical and religious importance to Haridwar itself, makes it a good stop for travellers who want a quieter, more local slice of the city's temple culture.
