How to Reach Auli from Rishikesh

Rishikesh is one of the principal gateways for travelling to Auli by road. The journey follows the Garhwal mountain route towards Joshimath before the final climb to Auli.

Uttarakhand Tourism's Auli–Gorson itinerary describes the Rishikesh to Joshimath section as approximately 245 km and around eight hours under the itinerary's conditions. The route passes through important confluences including Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Karnaprayag. From Joshimath, Auli is another approximately 16 km by road or can be accessed by ropeway when operational.

A commonly followed route is:

Rishikesh → Devprayag → Srinagar → Rudraprayag → Karnaprayag → Joshimath → Auli.

Uttarakhand Tourism describes the Rishikesh–Joshimath drive as approximately eight hours in its itinerary, although actual travel time can increase because of traffic, roadwork, rainfall, snow or mountain-road conditions.

From Joshimath, continue approximately 16 km to Auli by road or use the ropeway when operational.

If you are already in Rishikesh, the remaining journey to Auli is primarily by road.

Rishikesh is identified by Chamoli district as the nearest railhead for Auli. From Rishikesh, travellers can take a bus or taxi towards Joshimath and then continue to Auli.

There is no flight connection between Rishikesh and Auli.

Jolly Grant Airport is near Rishikesh, but once in Rishikesh it is generally more practical to continue towards Auli by road through Joshimath.
