Baba Baidyanath Temple

The main Jyotirlinga shrine — one of Hinduism's twelve most sacred Shiva temples.

← Back to Baidyanath Dham

Baba Baidyanath Temple is the heart of Baidyanath Dham: one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, making it a rare site sacred under both traditions. Legend holds that Ravana's attempt to carry the lingam to Lanka failed here, and it was set down permanently — giving the town its name and its centuries of pilgrimage. The temple complex itself holds 21 shrines around the main sanctum.

How to reach Baba Baidyanath Temple

Deoghar Railway Station and Deoghar Airport both serve the town; the temple itself is in the pedestrian-only Vishwanath Gali-style lane, reached on foot from any nearby guest house.
